David Newman serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for National Security at the Department of Justice (DOJ). From January 2021-October 2022, he served as the Associate Deputy Attorney General for National Security Affairs. Prior to holding that position, David was a partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he was Co-Chair of the Firm’s Global Risk and Crisis Management Practice. David previously served as Associate White House Counsel and Special Assistant to the President at the White House (2015-2017), in various posts on the staff of the National Security Council (2013-2015), and as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security (2011-2013). He is a graduate of Columbia College and Yale Law School and a former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court.
