Mr. Cyrus was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. He received a Master's Degree in National Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2014 and a BA in History from Bowling Green State University. Prior to working for the FBI, Mr. Cyrus was in the US Army.

Mr. Cyrus entered on duty as a Special Agent (SA) of the FBI on August 17, 1997. During his 24 years in the FBI, SA Cyrus was assigned to several Field Offices and has worked Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, Critical Incident Management, International Operations and, most recently, Cyber matters.

SA Cyrus was assigned to Detroit upon completion of the FBI Academy where he worked Chinese Counterintelligence matters.

In 2000, SA Cyrus was selected to the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), beginning the first of his two tours at HRT as an operator (2000-2007) then as operational Unit Chief and then Deputy Commander (2012-2015). In 2007, SA Cyrus returned to working Chinese Counterintelligence matters in Cincinnati Field Office before transferring to the FBI's International Operational Division in 2010. In 2015, SA Cyrus was a Supervisory Special Agent and later Assistant Special Agent in Charge for Extraterritorial Counterterrorism matters at the Washington Field Office. SA Cyrus' most recent posting as Section Chief for the FBI's China and DPRK Cyber programs began in 2019.

Throughout his career, SA Cyrus has done numerous international assignments throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
